JUDAISM:
Let’s first look at the Jewish position on The Son of God as posited by Kaufmann Kohler and Emil G. Hirsch at: ‘Jewish Encyclopaedia .com’
SON OF GOD
Term applied to an angel or demigod, one of the mythological beings whose exploits are described in Gen. vi. 2-4, and whose ill conduct was among the causes of the Flood; to a judge or ruler. ... “Sons of God” and children of God are applied also to Israel as a people (comp. Ex. Iv. 22 and Hos. Xi. 1) and to all members of the human race.
Yet the term by no means carries the idea of physical descent from, and essential unity with, God the Father. The Hebrew idiom conveys nothing further than a simple expression of godlikeness. In fact, the term “Son of God” is rarely used in Jewish literature in the sense of “Messiah”.
The Pious as Sons of God
‘The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha contain a few passages in which the title “Son of God” is given to the Messiah ... but the title belongs to any one whose piety has placed him in a filial relation to God, where “the sons of God” are identical with the saints. ... The God-childship of man has been especially accentuated in modern Jewish theology, in sharp contradistinction to the Christian God-sonship of Jesus.’
My commentary on the “enigmatic” Jews.
Now there is what I would call Jewish “intellectual justification” for their inexplicable “rejection” of Jesus as the Very Messiah for Whom they besought ‘The God of their Forefathers’ to send to them. Given so much over such a long period of human history and blessed in so many ways but, by their own reckoning, victims of persecution by all and sundry over that same time-period. What might The Laws of Creation -- the very Laws of life --- say about that attitude?
What should be obvious to anyone is that if a race of people wishes to maintain an original blessing as “the chosen ones” then that same race must surely have to obey all the Laws that such a position would absolutely decree. But, of course, history provides the hard facts; against the admonition of their many ordained Prophets, the Jews did not always obey. In fact, the very fact that they were finally “driven out” of their once ordained and blessed homeland and scattered across the world. unequivocally reveals that they did not heed The Law anywhere near enough.
No nation can rest on “Divinely-accorded laurels” once granted for the highest earthly purpose and expect to lay claim to them forever if that nation throws The Living Law back in The Face of The Divine. Who would be foolish enough to do that? In hard, blunt truth, only a people with the effrontery to place themselves above Inviolable Creation-Laws that they so stridently claim to have always obeyed as the “chosen”. Clearly, that is not the case.
You can work all that out for yourself when you carefully examine the Discourses elucidating those very Laws at a later point. You should then discover that all is not as Judaism would claim it to be, either for themselves, but for their religious history particularly. So: Not even the hint of a desire to claim --- and to therefore accept --- Jesus as The Son of God.
